Our Farms
We have an amazing family of farms that we contract to grow our native flowers all over SA coastline in different clients and soils to bloom the freshest flowers!
Living off grid
Surrounded by incredible nature, blooms, and of course our animals living off grid being conscious of the environment has been our long life dream.
What makes Native Avenue unique is its ability to service our customers orders for Native Flowers, over multiple locations across the beautiful state of South Australia.
We have our home base in Aldinga of 10 acres. Equipped with a flower processing shed, 7 acres of Australian foliages planted and with a few other varieties trailing in pockets of our property. Here is where Native Avenue was born! Propagating and sowing our first seeds that would ignite the resilience and determination we have had for growing fresh cut flowers since 2018.
Initially building our shed to service just a hobby farm with no clear intent in mind (and sometimes it shows). But we have been able to mould this space into a real work area that allows us to set up processes, servicing a constant flow of product through ready to send out to our customers.
10 acres is a large space, but when we set out on our mission to provide Farm Fresh cut stems direct to Florist, we soon realised that we were going to need to secure more stock to really let this business idea reach it's full potential.
We didn't have the capital then to purchase other plantations in the state but we could begin by approaching some of the properties that we knew of, with older established trees in hopes someone would be interested in letting us bring new life to their plants and earn an income from the flowers.
As we worked through these farms, slowly cutting to prune back old trees, bushes and shrubs, we began to see the improvement of our efforts and the enjoyment that traveling around to the different properties brought to the new "9-5".
This quickly led to acquiring more farms that were already running in production and for various reasons were looking for new management.
With our Van's loaded full of buckets filled with water, our valued team will arrive at each location and cut what is available depending on the flowering season. They get the flowers straight into water to ensure each stem maintains it's highest quality and the customer receives a noticeable 'farm fresh' product.
We then bring the stock back to home base in Aldinga, process by single stem orders or have bunching stock separated to create our mixed native bunches and get ready to send out to our customers on our delivery days.
Dain has always prided himself on quality contolling stock and kept a precise eye over all the farms and what is available to us through the year. He brilliantly communicates between farms and then seamlessly showcases over to our South Australian florists, cafes, wholesalers and other growers.
We are trying our best to educate as we go, how to support your local growers by buying Seasonal Flowers - we feel lucky to have such a platform to provide people with these options and can't wait to see where else this business can take us!
An extensive list of farms ranging from Normanville through the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills all the way up to Mt Pleasant formed. We connected with some wonderful people that were so pivotal in us leaning in to our space in the industry.
There is a huge advantage to South Australia's vast range in climate from each area. Typically, the first signs of Native Season will begin in the South and as the cool weather flows through - so will the flowering times of each farm. This staggers our flowers in each variety and stretching what can be a capped season, to all year round supply!
It's so warming to see the excitement in property owners that once serviced these plantations, that a new generation are keen excited to supply the state with Farm Fresh Direct flowers once again. Some aspects we love about working across multiple farms is the constant change of scenery and the country side that we get to experience. Whether it's coastal, the green hills or the feeling you are deep in the Australian bush - our day to day brings new wildlife, new views to capture and the privilege to be working out in the open fresh air.
Our challenges also lay in the reliance of Mother Nature and the conditions of these locations. Rainfall, heat waves, birds and bees also using these flowers for their survival. And, all the dangers that remote areas of SA can bring, Snakes, spiders, bush fires.
